Kind Connection

There are many ways to pick up a new cooking skill or learn some new recipes, and one option is to take a live cooking class offered at the Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center.

“When I found out about the class, I knew this was something I can do with my daughter to spend some quality time,” Lake Havasu City resident and participant, Sarrah Morton said.  “My daughter is also into baking and cooking so I knew this was something she would enjoy.”

The Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center offers recreational classes and programs through its Parks and Recreation Department, giving residents opportunities to learn new skills, explore hobbies, stay active and connect with others in the community.

The adult and children cooking classes are just one of those activities that the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center offers as part of their course line up and fills up quickly.

“We find that our cooking classes are so popular and fill up,” said Lake Havasu City Recreation Program Coordinator,  Brook Dubay.  “We are always looking for classes or activities that our community might enjoy.”

Fundamentals of this specific class include, meal preparation, cooking and presentation. Each class features a new recipe or theme.  But not only do people learn some new skills, Cooking instructor Patty Corona who has been teaching the course for more than a year at the Aquatic Center kitchen, says it’s more than just a cooking class.

“It brings a sense of community when we get together,” said Corona.  “My favorite part is the people.  Of course making food  but we also socialize and talk about different things with one another too.”

“Most importantly, if people leave my class happy, I am happy,” Corona said.

Some  past cooking courses included a pasta noodle making class, cookies, pizza  and most recently, a tamale-making course.

The classes are every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. There are also cooking classes for kids offered on Wednesdays.

” The community is welcome to register online, or come in person and sign up for the class or any of our other offered activties,” said Dubay.
