75 New Teachers Welcomed To Lake Havasu Unified School District

It might be mid-summer, but hold on, the first day of school is just around the corner.

Lake Havasu Unified School District will begin classes on Aug. 8, and this week, it is welcoming 75 new teachers. Those joining the district will learn everything they can about LHUSD over the next week.

Today, teacher orientation began at Lake Havasu High School.

Christie Olsen is the LHUSD Professional Learning coach at the district.

“We are welcoming in 75 new hires – certified teachers – into our district starting today.

Next week, we’ll be talking about best practices in the classroom, teaching curriculum, managing students,  building classroom community and really building connections with community as well,” Olsen said.

New principals were welcomed as well. Ginny Sautner at Starline Elementary, Kelly Tefft, Assistant Principal at Thunderbolt Middle School, Shannon Williams who moved from the high school to be principal at Nautilus Elementary School, Jennifer Black at Jamaica Elementary, and Amy Sullins is a new assistant principal at the high school.

“Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day for our teachers. We have the PTSO, the booster clubs throughout the week have donated for lunches.

“Mudshark donated lunches today. The K-12 Foundation donates lunch, the Realtors Association, and Calvary among many others, have donated a lunch,” Olsen said.

Assisting with the orientation and teacher training is Jamie Festa, Director, Larry Olsen, district math coach, Tania Gray, curriculum and instruction coach, Jackie Murphy is the instructional technology coach. and Jamie Thuneman is the assessment and accountability coach.

Orientation and training will end July 28 and the new teachers and administrators will prepare for the 2022-23 school year.

Sponsors for the teacher orientation include: Nautilus PTSO, Jamaica PTSO, Smoketree PTSO, Oro Grande PTSO, Starline PTA, Realtor’s Association, Anderson Toyota, LHHS Admin, District Administration, LHCEA, Site Administration, Site Administration, Delta Kappa Gamma, Mudshark Public House, LHHS Boosters, Thunderbolt Middle School, Mountain West Financial, Calvary Baptist Church, K-12 Foundation and Brishen McGuire with Republic Services.
