School Spirit

Lake Havasu Unified School District’s first full week of school was last week, with Smoketree Elementary going above and beyond to give its students and staff a positive welcome.
Smoketree Elementary started the year off with a staff welcome meeting and breakfast to ensure all the staff have an inspiring start.
Local police officers and firefighters joined the staff in welcoming students with a smile on the first day of school, followed by a lively kickoff rally to get the students excited for the school year.

The new Kindergarten students were given a school tour inspired by the children’s book, “The Kissing Hand,” before teachers established routines and teaching procedures.
Smoketree Elementary principal, Nina Mersing, said,“A new school year is a fresh beginning. It’s another chance to believe bigger, lead with heart, and make a difference in the lives of children every single day. I can already tell it’s going to be a great one.”
Mersing ensured that every younger and new student felt welcome, by having other students walk them to their morning lines, care for the flag and model responsibility.
Smoketree Elemntary dedicated many activities with the hope that every student was excited to begin this school year.
