Michael Alan Furniture and Design and the Cancer Care Resource Foundation hosted the 18th Annual Sleepless for a Cure Friday evening.

Participants gathered to decorate their beds early Friday morning for the theme “Patriotic” in honor of 9/11.

After a proclamation from Mayor Cal Sheehy Friday evening, participants heard from guest speaker Susan Svoboda who talked about her book “I Hate the Color Pink,” which can be found on Amazon.

“One in eight women get diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States and I couldn’t believe it happened to me. I was super healthy, my body betrayed me and I was pretty angry. I wrote this story and it kept me out of depression more than once,” said Svoboda.

The participants played games throughout the night and found ways to stay awake until 6 a.m. the next morning.

Bed No. 12, “Celebrating America’s 250th,”  by Virginia Chambers and Susan Warren won People’s Choice. Bed No. 8 ,  “Mammogram Recruitment Officers,” was Judge’s Choice.
