This summer, the Lake Havasu Museum of History is combining education with fun. With an array of activities, crafts and more, the museum may just be the most fun learning experience for kids this summer.

With the scalding heat, parents are always looking for ways to entertain the kids this summer without breaking the bank or getting a nasty sunburn. At the Museum, all activities are inside with air conditioning.

The middle area of the Museum has been transformed into a children’s educational exhibit. The middle of the front lobby exhibit is the largest checkers game in Lake Havasu City.

Speaking of games, did you know Lake Havasu has its own monopoly game? Well, come try out “Havasuopoly” with a board designed with familiar aspects of Lake Havasu.

Lining the walls of the exhibit are displays such as , “Black Sand” that helps kids dive deep into geology. There are also multiple coloring pages designed to stimulate both creativity and facts of the area.

Learn more about the geological history of the area with the Fossil Dig activity with a large dig area perfect for small children who just love to play in dirt.

Read of the tales of desert wildlife with “Cactus Hotel” and even look at a model of a Saguaro cactus that houses real life desert dwellers.

Believe it or not, volcanoes are erupting in the museum this summer with an extended display on the different types of volcanoes. Visitors can also learn about the types of rocks found all across the world.

The popular “Pet Rock Adoption Center” provides a choice of river rock, adoption registration and an opportunity to name, weigh and measure the chosen adoptee. 

At the end of the day, each kid explorer gets to take a gift-wrapped rock home with them located at the front of the museum. The Museum Store is also open with lots of gift ideas to share with friends and family.

The summer exhibit will be displayed until mid-August so come join the fun before the summer ends. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission for non-member adults is $7.50. Children 12 and under are free.

The “Back to School Bash,” sponsored by The event is sponsored by First Things First of the La Paz and Mohave regions. The nonprofit aims to encourage healthy living and early childhood education for the youth of Arizona.

Admission is waved for the event that takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their pre- and school-aged children to museum for lots of fun hands-on activities.

All of the exhibits of the Summer Program will be open as well as other fun exhibits specifically for the event.

All children that attend will receive a goodie bag to take home.

The museum’s fall season begins in September with the return of the Lake Havasu Antique Roadshow at ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City. The program will be Sept. 11. Stay tuned for details.
