Grace Arts Live presents “Alice in Wonderland,” which opens Friday in Lake Havasu City.

The delightful family story by Lewis Carroll brings all of Wonderland’s quirky characters who sing, dance and story-tell their way through Alice’s unusual adventure.

“I think it’s a fun, whimsical story with a darker side,” said Grace Arts Live director Lauren Blain. “This one is less ‘Disneyfied’ than some of the other shows. It definitely has a little bit of a darker side that is more in line with the book.”

The production’s 45 colorful cast members are all younger than 18 years old, Blain said. Another 15 peers and adult volunteers assist backstage with props, hair and makeup for the actors.

In the show, Alice finds herself in a topsy-turvy world with white rabbit, Cheshire cat, dancing flowers, the friendly caterpillar, singing tweedles, swimming sea creatures, a wacky tea party, the king and queen of hearts, and an acrobatic deck of cards. It’s a strange journey where nothing makes any sense for Alice, that’s for sure.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays during the next three weekends, Sept. 9-11; Sept. 16-18; and Sept. 23-25. Grace Arts Live is at 2146 N. McCulloch Blvd., in Havasu. For more information, visit www.graceartslive.com.
