Mike Taylor was the Havasu Stingrays Swim Club coach earlier in the 2020s. Tragically, Taylor passed away in May 2013 at a swim meet.
One of Taylor’s coaching practices included a Lake Havasu swim.
Taylor challenged the swimmers to swim in different conditions and boost their confidence, according to Nicole Brown.
After Taylor passed away, the club chose to keep Taylor’s legacy alive with the Coach Mike Memorial Lake Swim. This was the 10th year for the swim.
Wednesday, the Stingrays took to the Bridgewater Channel with spotters on stand-up paddleboards with them.
The swim is three miles from The Tinnell Memorial Skate Park area of Rotary Community Park, under the London Bridge to the other end of the Channel and back again.
The swim is now a fundraising event that allows the club to offer scholarships.
