For 43 years, avid anglers have gathered at Lake Havasu for the New Horizons Charity Pro-Am Team Bass Tournament.

This year was no different.

The event kicked off Friday evening with a dinner for all the teams and New Horizons members, hosted by event sponsor Anderson Toyota. There was a silent auction and photos in a photo booth.

Saturday morning, though, the real fishing action started.

Brooke Russell, CEO for New Horizons Center for People With Special Needs said, “We’re down here at Riviera Marina celebrating the 43rd annual New Horizons Bass Tournament. We were extremely excited to see that we ended up with 72 boats coming out to celebrate the individuals we have the privilege to support.

“We have a phenomenal group of sponsors that have come together to help us to continue to provide great services for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout Lake Havasu City,” she said.

The major payout for winners this year was $5,000 to the first team.

“We had a total of 21 pro/am payouts all the way from $5,000 to $100,” she said.

“This is a way to bring everyone together while we watch this amazing day – the weigh-ins – New Horizons’ team, our staff, the board of directors and volunteers that came down to thank the anglers and the sponsors for making today possible,” she said.

Finishing first was the team of Kyle Coppinger-Taylor Hommertzeim in boat 49 with a catch weighing 21.79 lbs. Second was the team of Zach Verbrugge and Dan McCoy in boat 70 with a catch weighing 20.97 lbs. Coming in third was the team of Jason and Larry Marquez in boat 58, weighing in at 20.01 lbs.
